Do you think that history is something you just studied at school, with lots of dates you could never remember? Join Philip Grant from Wembley History Society on a walk round our local park, and discover some of the fascinating things that have happened here in the past. You may find that features you have passed many times, without really noticing, are clues to stories that make Kingsbury a more interesting place than you ever thought!
Part of Adult Learners Week, meet at Kingsbury Library on Tuesday 16th June at 1.30 pm.
Philip is not only an excellent historian but also a Kingsbury resident and is sure to bring the walk alive.

CAFE - Opening in Roe Green Park
More good news for Fryent residents and Roe Green park users. I have noticed from another local blogger in Wembley that the Council has leased "The Lodge" on Kingsbury Road, opposite Valley Drive and granted planning permission to convert into a local cafe.
The Lodge will be extended to provide toilets and an outside seating area for park users and cafe customers. As local Councillors we have been asking the Council to lease the empty buildings in the park to include local benefits or amenities for local residents.
Also of interest is a link below which provides a short history of "Kingsbury Manor", its Lodge and Coach House. This has been written by local Fryent resident Philip Green a respected local historian and member of Wembley History Society. http://brent.gov.uk/media/387493/Philip%20Grant,%20Kingsbury%20Manor%20history.pdf
The Lodge has been derelict for many years and was in danger of being demolished as the building was in such poor state of repair. Our new Councillor Shama Tatler said "I am delighted that the building has been saved from demolition and is going to be put to good use"

Travellers arrive in Roe Green Park
Late last night about 20 traveller caravans arrived in Roe Green Park. Council officers have started the process to remove them by taking legal action. They have also requested help from the Police who can use other powers to remove them when requested by the landowner, in this case, the Council.
Brent provide a traveller site close to the North Circular Road near the Ikea retail outlet so it is disappointing that this group have decided set up a camp in a local park.
