Your Health Records shared? It`s up to you.

The NHS is contacting all households in Fryent and Brent about changes to how  patient information is held. Leaflets explaining how the NHS uses patient information have begun to be delivered so you should be receiving something within the next few weeks.

You will receive “Better Information Means Better Care”, a leaflet explaining the benefits of sharing information about the care they have received.  (You may not have noticed the leaflet as it may have looked like junk mail).There is more information on the NHS website http://www.england.nhs.uk/ourwork/tsd/care-data/,.An important point to note from the leaflet is that the data will be uploaded from your records unless you opt out by informing your GP. 

It’s up to you to decide whether you want your data to be shared or not. Please look at the links for more information and make a decision. If you are happy you do not need to do anything. New Health Centre for Kingsbury

Multi-million pound plans to build “urgently needed” doctors surgeries in Kingsbury have been approved to cope with a growing number of new patients.

The empty patch of land in Stag Lane, Kingsbury, near the Village School will be transformed into a new centre including a pharmacy and 11 new flats.

The Fryent Medical Centre in Church Lane and the Willow Tree Doctors Surgery, which operate from small residential houses in Kingsbury, will relocate to the new centre to accommodate the growing need for improved health care facilities in the area.


The 11 flats are expected to be completed by winter 2014 and the medical centres will be built by summer 2015.

The housing will consist of one, two and three bedroom apartments for shared ownership, and priority will be given to social tenants, people on the housing register and first-time buyers.

Fryent Councillors have been working closely with the GP Practices and the wider NHS, Brent Council and the Network Housing Association. We are delighted that this scheme has finally been approved, this scheme delivers a solution with great benefits for Kingsbury and its residents and patients and adds much needed housing.

Measles - are your children protected?

Measles - are your children protected? Overall the number of cases of measles across London and in Brent remains at low levels. However, parents need to be aware that children are not fully protected against measles unless they have had the required two jabs of the MMR vaccine. The measles outbreak in Swansea may have caused concern among some parents about their children possibly contracting measles. At the weekend there was conflicting reports in the Times and Sunday Times who were reporting different levels of vaccination rates for Brent. The Sunday Times reported Brent has one of the lowest uptake of MMR vaccinations between 10 and 12 year olds in London.It is clear that the recent outbreak in Swansea could have been avoided if more parents had not opted out of vaccinating their children against MMR. It is never too late for children and young people to get vaccinated against measles. Parents of unvaccinated children, teenagers and young adults living in Fryent who have missed out on MMR should arrange for them to be vaccinated by their GP. If you are unsure whether your child has had two doses of the vaccine, speak to your GP who will have a record. Fryent Councillors Brent.

KINGSBURY AND KENTON AREA FORUM

The next meeting of the area forum will take place on Tuesday 17th July at Kingsbury High School, Princess Ave, NW9.
Some of the agenda items that will be discussed are:

· Localisation of Council Tax Benefit

· Draft Cemeteries Strategy (consultation takes place from 2 July to 28 September)

· An update on local Policing

· Shaping a Healthier Future – consultation by NHS

In addition, there will be a written feedback on the Ward Working sessions that took place at the last forum meeting.

The item on the future of the NHS locally is very important as radical changes are being proposed that affects the way the Hospitals are managed.

Kingsbury Partnership Day

On Friday 2^nd March 2012, partners gathered together for a Brent Health Partnership Day in Kingsbury High Road. The day gave Fryent and Kingsbury residents an opportunity to gain specialist advice and support from Brent NHS and Fryent Safer Neighbourhood Ploice Team on health issues and crime prevention.

Many residents received free health check ups covering weight, blood pressure, heart and  lungs. They also had the opportunity to gain advice on how to lead a healthy life style, stop smoking and problems with drugs and alcohol.   Brent NHS have subsequently told us how successful the event was, a total of Thirty eight (38) referrals were made from the event with 13 same day start, 25 follow up referrals plus 208 health checks were done on.

NHS WAITING LIST’S RISING

You might be forgiven, with all the talk of the dire economic climate, in forgetting that the Health and Social Care Bill is still being debated through the House of Lords.

A recent e mail from the Socialist Health Assoc warns of very worrying increases in waiting times within our local NHS. Brent NHS has a 54% increase in the number of patients waiting more than 18 weeks since May 2010. The figure for Harrow is even worse the increase is 75%. Even more worrying is the disintegration of the local NHS or PCT’s before Parliament has given consent to the Bill.
